Synthesis Sound Archive is an Experimental sound and visual art collective. Visual artist Justin Hibbs, musicians Ben Lancaster and Sean Roche explore the dynamic interplay between sound and image, harnessing the relationship between analogue, modular, and digital production, and the vibrant connections between underground music’s rich history, its evolving present, and the visual cultures that orbit these sonic worlds.

Just released:  ‘Dark Matter’ is now available to listen on Bandcamp.

The long-form composition ‘Dark Matter’ traces a parallel world of sonic imagery alongside a new suite of artworks by visual artist Justin Hibbs for the exhibition ‘Dark Matter’, presented at Arróniz Arte Contemporáneo, Mexico City, 2026.
Working collaboratively, Hibbs and musicians Ben Lancaster (arrangement / modular synth / electronics) and Sean Roche (saxophone / modular synth), with contributions from Francine Loze (cello) and David X Green (piano), seek to create an imaginative and generative drift between the aural and the visual.

Rooted in the looping grind of daily news stories filtered through an inky black static of resonant visual noise, the artworks track an information landscape of dissonance, reflecting the shifting, borderless, noise-filled terrain of our post-digital spaces. The music mirrors this journey, inhabiting the spaces left between the images, creating a landscape of sonic visions that transition from analogue to the digital.

From the delicate human acoustics of the saxophone, bowed cello and piano to the rolling ominous thunder of sub-bass, modular drone and storms of electrostatic feedback. We travel across a wide and psychologically inferential field, shifting between a sense of pathos, loss and melancholy, giving way to longing, a rising hope for tomorrow, the familiar and estranged in a constantly shifting pattern of evolutionary exchange.
